After the death of Asaf-Ud-Daula's father, his grandmother and mother started interfering in the matters of the court which created a lot of problems in decision making. Due to increased interference and conflicts between the women of the house, he decided to shift his capital from Faizabad to Lucknow.

As the Nawab was shifting his capital from Faizabad to Lucknow. As he was coming on his boat, two fishes constantly crossed his path. He caught those fishes and brought them to Lucknow.

It proved to be lucky for him and for his treasury which started growing by many folds. These fishes were a lucky charm and he kept them in a treasury and also included them all over the design at the Imambara and other important monuments of Lucknow. These fishes are now the symbol of the state of Uttar Pradesh and adorn all important buildings.
